Getting to know Simon Harris, Warehouse Supervisor – 6 years of service
Anyone who knows Genuine Solutions knows we are one big family full of superstars. In our new series we sit down with our colleagues and ask them the pressing questions of the moment. We kick our Meet & Greet #TeamGS series.
We all know that teamwork is the key to success for any business, especially during a global pandemic, but for you what makes the camaraderie so strong at GS?
We are lucky to have a great team in dispatch and we still have the chance to joke around, celebrate birthdays and to check in on each other.
The business is still in a good position due to the forward planning of protocols and business continuity plans, and although like many businesses in the UK and indeed internationally our performance was impacted – have you noticed a much of a difference in the volume of products now being recovered and distributed?
I have to say we feel quite lucky that we are one big family and naturally care about each other and keeping us safe. In the warehouse we have seen the change in orders. As someone who has to get addresses into DPD, its great to see the sales team bringing on board new customers especially while some of our other customers in retail might be closed. It is still very much business as usual and we are kept busy which is great.
With the safety of the team paramount to the business, Genuine Solutions has invested in various measures and implemented many processes to protect those employees like yourself, who are required to carry out their roles in the office, but what is it like working in this new kind of environment where PPE is required, working in bubbles and keeping at a safe distance at all times. How have you acclimatised to these new ways of working?
In the warehouse we are used to wearing high vis and safety boots etc, but since COVID arrived we now wear facemasks, which is not ideal but its important to stay safe. With the facilities we have, its really easy to regularly wash hands and to sanitise whilst being able to have the space to feel safe too.
We understand that even during these challenging times, the business has kept the team connected through various means, whether that be via regular team newsletters, online social events such as virtual quiz’s, sending out surprise gift packages to all the team etc, for you, what do like best, this sort of team interaction must make these tougher times slightly better right?
Working in one of the few roles which demands the need to come in it has been great to have video calls with colleagues, we have fun quiz’s. There’s a weekly newsletter too which lets us know what’s going on and there is always something fun going on.
