Genuine Solutions welcomes first Surrey Choices employee
Since partnering with social care provider Surrey Choices, a support organisation for people with a range of disabilities in Surrey, Genuine Solutions has broadened its reach for recruitment. We have trained our recruiting managers within the business to explore new talent under the guidance of Surrey Choices and their EmployAbility Initiative. Over the last six months, we have interviewed several candidates with a variety of support needs ranging from profound deafness through to autism and learning difficulties and we continue to interview people to see if they will fit in at Genuine Solutions.
In May we offered a work trial to Damian in our electronics recovery and recycling team and he has continued to work for us ever since and it has been a real success story. According to Viv Sage, Head of HR at Genuine Solutions, “Damian has been brilliantly supported by the whole team and benefited from our Buddy Scheme where we partner up all new starters with a more experienced buddy to help them settle in and become part of the team.”

Damian had never taken on a full time job before coming to the company and has described the biggest problem of working as getting up in time! Damian’s family have described his employment at Genuine Solutions as transformational, for not just Damian, but the whole family.
Christina Earl, Acting Operations Director for Surrey Choices is pleased with Genuine Solutions progress, “It is great to see the company successfully appointing one of our customers and as a result of their excellent induction programme, training and support, he continues to grow in confidence and is embracing his role.”
Neil Robinson, Head of Operations at Genuine Solutions is very enthusiastic about his new addition to the team, “I am so pleased to see Damian settling in and getting fully involved in not only the work but the more social aspects of working life. We enjoyed his company on a team day out to Brighton recently and he has even been getting involved in some of our wellness programme activities such as lunchtime boxercise classes to promote health and fitness.”

The relationship with Surrey Choices is an ongoing partnership. Both Neil and Viv are in regular contact with Surrey Choices with a view to offering similar opportunities to other people with disabilities in the communities around our business.
