You got that Friday Feeling?
It is no great revelation a healthy workforce makes for a healthy business. But it is surprising to discover a relative lack of investment in staff wellbeing. New research by the British Chambers shows more than 40 per cent of businesses have had employees absent from work for more than four weeks due to ill health in the last two years.
As a ‘Top 100 Company to Work For’ we are always looking at ways to enhance our wellbeing programme, this includes the launch of our ‘Friday Feeling’ initiative.
Wellbeing programme
We absolutely believe that if we invest in our team we can grow and become more successful as a business. As part of our commitment to the team, we offer 3:30pm finishes on a Friday. We are confident reduced working hours will give the team a greater opportunity to have more down time and to return to work feeling fresh!
Research shows productivity is actually enhanced with flexible working. You feel more motivated to get work done and can achieve a better work-life balance. That is why at Genuine Solutions we have rolled out shorter working hours on a Friday and two 20-minute breaks throughout the day. That is double the UK legal requirement for rest breaks!
“Customers do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the customers.” – Sir Richard Branson
Relax, recharge and rewind
It can sometimes feel as though you are chained to your desk as emails pour in and the eternal to-do list continues to grow. But taking regular breaks at work is beneficial to the individual and the company as a whole. Two hours of work at peak productivity can easily outperform five hours of work when you are not fully concentrating.
At Genuine, we have introduced a ‘Recharge Room’ where staff can take time away from their desks, socialise with their colleagues and recharge their batteries. Not only does it allow them to reset, but it also boosts creativity by offering a relaxed environment to share ideas.
There can be a number of external factors which can impact how you feel and behave daily. However, we recognise there are small changes we can make at Genuine to enhance our team’s wellbeing, both physically and emotionally. That is why we have taken the time to listen to our employees and put some of their feedback into action by developing our wellbeing programme.
