DiT praises Genuine Group for International Growth
Genuine Solutions DiT, established to promote exporting opportunities for British businesses has recently highlighted their work with Genuine Group as an example of best practice. The Government departure has issued the following press release.
SURBITON ETHICAL TECHNOLOGY COMPANY GROWS INTERNATIONAL SALES
Genuine Solutions Group, a Surbiton-based mobile phone and accessory distributor and recycler, has increased its international trading from 52% to 70% of total revenue between 2016 to 2017, with support from the Department for International Trade (DIT).
Genuine Solutions Group, founded in 2005 and headquartered in Surbiton, distributes smartphones and accessories to local and international wholesalers, traders and independent high street retailers. The company also recycles and refurbishes a wide range of technology products and parts, which are then distributed to an international market to help reduce levels of landfill bound technology.
Since the firm began its exporting journey in 2006, it has grown its international client portfolio significantly, now exporting to 51 countries. International destinations for its products include the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and the United States.
Genuine Solutions Group started exporting one year after it began trading following a successful appearance at the German trade show CeBIT where it secured new contracts. The international growth was supported by DIT, which provided guidance on the legalities of shipping technology products. DIT also conducted research and analysis to help Genuine Solutions Group find the right opportunities overseas.
The success of Genuine Solutions Group’s international expansion is being celebrated in DIT’s Exporting is GREAT campaign. DIT promote exports from, and supports exporters in, in all parts of the UK. Businesses across the UK can benefit from the overseas network, international events programmes, High Value Campaigns and online services. The GREAT campaign is currently showcasing 30+ UK businesses – from a range of sectors and regions – to inspire and support firms up and down the country to export.
Chris McBride, founder of Genuine Solutions Group, said: “One of the biggest challenges we faced when looking to export was the different legislation and compliance that comes with shipping the likes of batteries and devices.
“As a start-up we had limited resource, knowledge and budget. But DIT supported us and encouraged us to be brave whilst navigating new markets. The team helped us to pull together feasibility studies that, to this day, keep us clued up on the regulations and requirements of different market zones that we are operating in. We wouldn’t have been able to come this far and export to over 50 countries without the support of DIT. If we can do it, so can many others.”
Parveen Thornhill, DIT’s Regional Director for London, said: “Genuine Solution Group’s offering, alongside its contribution to cutting down on plastic and associated waste through the recycling and recovery of waste mobile phones, has allowed the business to bounce from strength-to-strength and appeal to customers all over the world. The company’s success shows the level of opportunity available to businesses who look internationally.
“We have a network of International Trade Advisers and a whole suite of online services who are on hand to support firms like Genuine Solutions Group in navigating new territories, as well as workshops and events that are built to find solutions to businesses’ exporting concerns. We can also provide support for trade shows.”
