Team of daredevils from Genuine Solutions Group take on a 160ft abseil down Guildford Cathedral in support of Children’s Trust
On Saturday 6th June 2015, 27 Daredevils from Genuine Solutions Group descended 160ft down Guildford Cathedral in support of Children’s Trust Children’s Charity.
The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. Working with children and young people from across the UK, both from our specialist centre in Tadworth, Surrey and in communities around the country.
The Children’s Trust set a £250 minimum sponsorship which needed to be raised by each participant wishing to partake in the event. Genuine Solutions kindly offered to fund match each employee brave enough to take part in the challenge.
Participants were warned that the event was pretty much weather resistant, so unless there was a freak weather condition such as a blizzard, it was sure to go ahead. And it did!
Luckily enough for everyone involved the sun shone brightly and views whilst dangling 160ft from the top of Guildford Cathedral were exquisite. The beautiful surroundings made it the perfect location for such an event and one those who took part in will surely never forget.
There were definitely mixed emotions prior to everyone’s involvement, but as soon as the daredevils had accomplished the abseil and reached the ground they couldn’t hide their excitement from the buzz they received when descending. In fact, there was a number of people previously scared stiff before taking on the 160ft abseil wanting to do it again!
One of the Genuine Solutions daredevils said, “Walking up the hundreds of stairs to reach the roof of the Cathedral and realising how high I was, was actually quite daunting. Although that said, the scariest moment had to be initial task of getting your body over the edge of the building. But as soon as I started to descend, the buzz was amazing!”
All in all the day was hugely enjoyable, for both participants and supporters, and even more importantly hugely beneficial to the children in which the Children’s Trust supports.
